Ed Flynn spent 47 years at sea before he retired at age 80. Starting out with the Coast Guard, Ed sailed for several years in Arctic waters, cutting ice and supplying army bases in Greenland during the War. Ed joined the Merchant Marine after the War and worked for Exxon for the rest of his career.

George Duffy sailed during World War II. His ship was sunk by a German raider off the coast of Cape Town and he spent twenty-eight days as a German prisoner of war before being handed over to the Japanese and transferred to camps in Java, Singapore, and Sumatra, where he survived working on the infamous "Death Railway."

Jay took a job on a dredge boat on the Mississippi River after graduating high school. When the U.S. entered World War II, Jay joined the merchant marine and worked as an engineer after training on Chesapeake Bay. After the war he began a long career as a printer and photographer.

Daisy came to the United States from Trinidad with her former husband, an American whom she met during World War II. Daisy sailed as a stewardess on the SS UNITED STATES and was on board for her last voyage. She later spent ten years working for Central Gulf before retiring.
