Scope and content

Includes fifteen MSS. of journals written by Chaplains of the Protestant Episcopal Church Missionary Society for Seamen in the City and Port of New York, documenting the missionary work done on the New York City waterfront during the years 1843-1897. Includes seven bound volumes from 1843-1853 written by Benjamin C. C. Parker, Reverend at the Floating Church of Our Saviour on the waterfront at Pike Street; seven bound volumes of Visitors' Books from SCI's outpost at Coenties Slip, including entries from the Board of Managers of the Protestant Episcopal Church Missionary Society for Seamen in the City and Port of New York, Rev. E.F. Remington, Rev. Robert J. Walker and Rev. Isaac Maguire; and one bound volume documenting the year 1897 in review for the missionary outpost at the East River Station written by Rev. Archibald R. Mansfield.
