Includes minutes from the monthly meetings held by the Board of Managers from June 1893 – May 1902. The following people are among those represented under this subject: Rev. William A. Dalton; Rev. Roy Farrel Duffield; Rev. Walter A. A. Gardner; Frank P. Hughes; Rev. Isaac Maguire; Rev. Archibald R. Mansfield; Daniel Montgomery; Augusta Morris de Peyster; Rt. Rev. Henry C. Potter; and Henry Smith. Notable events include SCI’s 50th anniversary in 1893; the resignation of Rev. William A. Dalton in 1894; the appointment of Rev. Archibald R. Mansfield as missionary of the East River Station in 1895; the formation of a Joint Conference between SCI and other organizations to lobby for legislation protecting mariners in 1896; addition of new room at 37 Front Street to ease overcrowding in the rooms at 21 Coenties Slip in 1897; passing of legislation protecting mariners by Congress in 1897; resignation of Henry Smith as superintendent of the Sailors’ Home and appointment of his replacement, Daniel Montgomery, in 1897; opening of the New York School of Navigation at the East River Station in 1899; founding of the Seamen’s Benefit Society by Augusta Morris de Peyster in 1900; addition of Battery Station at 1 State Street and appointment of Frank P. Hughes as superintendent in 1901; resignation of Rev. Isaac Maguire and appointment of his replacement, Rev. Roy Farrel Duffield, in 1901; purchase of mission boat Sentinel in 1902; and death of Daniel Montgomery and appointment of his replacement, Frank P. Hughes, in 1902.
