Includes minutes from the monthly meetings held by the Board of Managers from January 1941 – December 1950. The following people are among those represented under this subject: Rt. Rev. Charles K. Gilbert; Rev. Raymond S. Hall; Rev. Harold H. Kelley; Clarence G. Michalis; and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Notable events include the declaration of war on Japan by the United States in 1941; opening of both the Seamen’s Lounge and the Charles Hayden Flying Bridge and Pilot House in the Merchant Marine School in 1942; the death of Janet L. Roper in 1943, and subsequent launching of the SS Janet Lord Roper ship and establishment of the Janet Roper Club; creation of the Modernization Fund and Alcoholics Assistance Bureau in 1944; the surrender of Germany and Japan to the United States in 1945; the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1945; visit of the Archbishop of Canterbury to SCI in 1946; and resignation of Rev. Harold H. Kelley and appointment of his replacement, Rev. Raymond S. Hall, in 1948.
