Includes black and white portrait and candid photographs and drawings of mariners and their families. The following items are among those represented under this subject: A group of shipwrecked seafarers sitting in the auditorium at 25 South Street during World War I; American Women’s Voluntary Services (AWVS) members singing to seamen in the Seamen’s Lounge at 25 South Street in 1943; broadcast of the poetry contest “Between the Bookends” in February 1945, with a seaman winning third prize; Radio operator Ken Quee speaking with mariner Manuel Benitez on the rooftop of 25 South Street in 1955; a 1964 portrait of Seaman of the Month David Frey; female “Sea Venture” crew members attending an orientation at 15 State Street prior to sailing in 1974; two crew members looking out of the Turkish goodwill ship Tarsus in the port of Miami (Fla.); a portrait of Count Felix von Luckner; Capt.
