Mr. Remington delivered at the Church (March 14, 1852); the funeral of Atong, a Chinese seafarer from the ship N.B. Palmer (April 4, 1852); Rev. Parker’s attendance at the opening of a new building for children at Sailor’s Snug Harbor in Staten Island (June 3, 1852); Rev. Parker’s sermon at St. John’s Church, Yonkers, on the burning of the steamer Henry Clay ten miles from Fort Lee on July 26, 1852 (August 1, 1852); the sinking of the Church under the weight of snow on her roof (January 14, 1853); the services held at the reading room of the Sailor’s Home at 190 Cherry Street (January 16, 1853); the raising and repairing of the Church (January 17-22, 1853); the scarcity of seafarers in port (April 3-10, 1853); the damage done to the Church by the sloop Advocate (April 19, 1853); the return of Frederick Jerome, who rescued fifteen people from the burning ship New World in 1848, to the Church despite reports that he had been killed in St. Juan two years prior (September 18, 1853).
