Labor Issues on New York's Waterfront: A Visual History >> Marine Workers Voice

Marine Workers Voice

The Marine Workers Industrial Union (MWIU) was one of the main organizing forces on the waterfront in the 1930s. As the maritime branch of the Communist Party, the MWIU put out the Marine Workers Voice newspaper. This issue’s headlines: “Seamen on Hunger March Plan Future Struggles” "Jury Ordered to Convict Seamen: Judge Rules Sailors Are Not Civilized” and “National Committee of Marine Workers Union Holds Enlarged Session: Calls Second National Convention to Meet in New York July 15; To Recruit 2,000.”
